UCC Receives Essential Items Donation for Shelter Clients

A warm gesture from two generous community members will go a long way in keeping clients comfortable this winter at United Community Corporation’s shelter locations.

Earlier this month, Ola Anacreon and Katherine Rozzelle, two realtors at Signature Realty NJ, donated bed linens, towels, washcloths, shower shoes and various hygiene products to UCC's Emergency Services Department which operates three shelters in Newark (Fulton Street and HOPE Villages I and II). The contribution was made possible by fundraising efforts from Anacreon and Rozzelle, who said they raised $2,000 to purchase the items.

As the winter season brings frigid temperatures and harsh weather, this time of year can pose difficult challenges to individuals in the Greater Newark community often seeking a physical space to warm up or lay their head at night. Through these donated items, Anacreon and Rozzelle hope they can ensure the comfort and dignity of the community’s most vulnerable individuals.

A Quick response to our community needs

We can't begin to express the many blessings that are preparing to come UCC's way but the work of our frontline staff is beyond measure.

Tuesday, February 2, 2021, a request for towels was made and it hit really hard that this was an item we didn't have in abundance as the showers we have are the only showers many guests have used in a prolonged period of time. The towels we provide, often times will also double as a blanket or jacket insulation on a cold day when a guest can't make it to a shelter.

The care, respect and compassion guests receive at our shelter goes a long way and the community hears that good work through guests but also our team are ambassadors.

The call for help was given Tuesday night and Wednesday morning the community showed up to help. We were able to purchase 116 towels and 414 washcloths because of the mission and commitment to and from our community.

There are more donations being made and several items underway such as organizations pledging services, financial campaigns, and in kind donations.

Become apart of our mission by helping our shelter with an abundance of items such as towels, toiletries, blankets, pillowcases, etc.
