In Loving Memory of Dorice Thomas
UCC honors Dorice Thomas, a fierce and dedicated advocate to people in need.
Dorice had a compassion for others that was clear in her every action working 22 years in property management at affordable housing communities and for the past three years as a Program Supervisor for United Community Corporation’s (UCC) Energy Assistance Department. As new team members joined UCC, Dorice would not hesitate to welcome them warmly and provide anything she could to assist in their adjustment. Her job title changed from time to time, filling the needs of the agency, but her service remained above and beyond. Dorice modeled one of her favorite quotes daily: "Treat people how you want to be treated." She believed that if everybody did this, the world would be a much better place.
"But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint."
In conversations with fellow staff and clients, she effortlessly provided services with dignity and encouraged others to do the same because at any moment we could switch circumstances. Dorice’s ability to use her personal and professional experiences to provide humor and a positive outlook on life is a minor highlight of the inspirational woman she was.
A Huge Thank you, to Dorice’s family for sharing her with us though it feels she has gone too soon. We will continue to honor her memory by providing service as Dorice did with great compassion and respect.
