UCC Celebrates Success in the DASH Program, Helping Families Transition from Shelter to Housing

UCC is proud to celebrate its vital role in the DASH Program (Doorway to Affordable, Sustainable Housing), in partnership with the City of Newark, Newark Housing Authority, and the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs (DCA). Through this collaborative effort, UCC has helped move more than 200 families from shelters into stable housing with vouchers and affordable housing.

The success of the DASH Program is a direct reflection of the hard work and dedication of UCC’s Rental Assistance Department and a step forward in addressing homelessness and housing insecurity in the community. Over the past four months, the team - Latonya, Chamil, Ebony, Jelia, Regina, Yisely, and Anna - has reviewed more than 240 applications for the PATH HOME and HOME-TBRA initiatives, ensuring that families in need receive timely and high-quality support.

For families moving from shelter to permanent housing, this work is life-changing. Beyond the keys to a home, the DASH Program provides stability, dignity, and hope for a brighter future.

“The DASH Program shows what’s possible when we work together with our partners to meet families where they are and help them move forward,” said Latonya Easterling, UCC Rental Assistance Department Director. “Every family we assist is another step toward breaking the cycle of homelessness. I am so proud of our team for the care, commitment, and compassion they bring to this work every single day.”

UCC remains committed to its mission of empowering individuals and strengthening families through housing assistance, community services, and compassionate support.
