Sock Donation Brings Comfort and Care to Residents at Hope Village II

Sometimes it’s the smallest gestures that leave the greatest impact. At United Community Corporation’s (UCC) Hope Village II, a recent donation of 40 pairs of Bombas socks from community member Desarae Sweet of Heavy Laden Ministries has brought comfort, relief, and dignity to residents who are taking steps toward stability after experiencing chronic homelessness.

“A lot of times when help is given, we overlook something so simple as clean socks,” said Jelani Addison, UCC Director of Hope Village II. “I have had many residents express how much better their feet will feel with fresh socks.”

Hope Village II provides transitional housing for individuals facing complex barriers to housing. More than just a roof, the shelter offers structure, support, and a pathway forward. Through partnerships with local agencies, guests have access to medical and mental health services, substance abuse treatment, and behavioral health support. UCC staff also assist residents in obtaining vital documents, restoring lost benefits, and enrolling in assistance programs. These resources ensure they have the tools needed to rebuild their lives.

For those navigating these challenges, contributions like this sock donation go a long way. They not only meet a basic need but also remind residents that they are seen, valued, and cared for.
As donor Mrs. Sweet shared:

“My Mother always said it was God's grace that kept us safe and our faith that held us up and gave us shelter from the storm. She said that every human deserves love, dignity and respect. We asked, ‘How do you love someone that you don’t know?’ She said, ‘By meeting whatever need you can. It provides respect, gives dignity and shows love the only way you can. It is our way of giving a touch of grace to the world.’  We chose to donate brand new Bombas socks to UCC because they are diligently working in the community to meet the needs of the people that require a bit of grace to continue their journey. Filling a need helps the community stand a little stronger day by day. Why wait for someone outside of the community to heal the hurt? Let us meet the need and be the difference from the inside out. We got this.”

This act of kindness exemplifies how even the simplest items can uplift lives. At Hope Village II, fresh socks are more than clothing. They are a symbol of care, dignity, and the community’s commitment to walking alongside residents on their journey toward stability.
