UCC Basketball Camp Brings Athletics, Community Lessons to Youth

UCC wrapped up its 2025 Youth, Family, and Senior Services Basketball Camp in September with a spirited game between program participants at West Side Park in Newark. Running from July 1 to September 4, 2025, the camp provided local youth ages 10 to 18 the opportunity to learn basketball skills while building teamwork, discipline, and confidence on and off the court.

Led by UCC’s Community-Based Violence Intervention (CBVI) program, the camp was designed to give young people a safe, supportive, and positive environment during the summer months. Participants received instruction in ball handling, passing drills, shooting techniques, defensive basics, and a review of basketball fundamentals. Beyond skill development, the camp emphasized mentorship and recreation as tools for community interaction and violence prevention.

Reflecting on the camp’s impact, Terrell Prince, UCC CBVI Prevention Specialist, shared:

"Youth recreational programs like this basketball camp are vital to our mission of creating safe spaces where young people can grow, learn, and thrive. By investing in our youth, we are building stronger communities and showing them that they are valued, supported, and capable of achieving great things both on and off the court."

The basketball camp concluded with an exciting showcase game that allowed participants to put their new skills into action. UCC is proud to continue offering youth enrichment programs that promote healthy recreation, community connection, and pathways to brighter futures.
