We at UCC mourn the loss of Former Newark Mayor Sharpe James, whose legacy will forever be etched into the history and soul of this city. Mayor James left behind a lifetime of passionate service, relentless advocacy, and deep love for the people of Newark.

Sharpe James was a champion of community empowerment and understood that true progress begins at the grassroots level. As mayor, he carried those values with him, tirelessly advocating for equity, development, and dignity for local families. His leadership reflected a bold and uncompromising commitment to uplifting those who needed it most. His contributions to Newark will never be forgotten.
