A night filled with music, laughter, dancing and a touch of nostalgia filled the Westside Park Community Center this month as senior citizens from Greater Newark gathered for United Community Corporation’s Senior Prom.
The event, which was made possible by the support of Amerigroup, JP Morgan Chase-Community Banking, Newark Centers of Hope, Essex County Department of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs along with a host of other partners provided attendees with a heartwarming celebration of their vibrant spirits and the importance of community.
For many, it was an evening that transported everyone back in time, allowing them to relive their youth and create cherished memories. The seniors, dressed in their finest attire and personally decorated masks, radiated joy and excitement as they danced, laughed, and shared stories with one another.
With a golden time had by all who danced the night away, one attendee, Ann Marie Campbell, took a moment to reflect on the evening following the event. She shared her experiences from the prom and what an evening of togetherness meant to her and her peers.
