We Are Better Together Community Day

UCC, in partnership with Congregation Ahavas Sholom and Clinton Memorial AME Zion Church, hosted a successful "We Are Better Together Community Day" on July 16, providing the community access to a variety of vital resources and outreach services. The free, family-friendly event connected residents with a wide range of offerings including:

  • A free laundry trailer
  • Groceries and Food Distribution
  • Games and Family Activities
  • Healthcare Screenings
  • Medicaid/Medicare Assistance

“This event is about neighbors helping neighbors,” UCC Executive Director Craig Mainor said. “We know that no one organization can do it all. That is why partnerships like this one with Congregation Ahavas Sholom and Clinton Memorial AME Zion Church are critical to building stronger, more resilient communities. When we work together, we can connect people to the resources they need and create spaces where everyone feels welcome.”

“This partnership between UCC, Ahavas Sholom and Clinton Memorial AME Zion Church, provided much needed services and dignity to those in our community who are underserved and in need,” Congregation Ahavas Sholom President Eric Freedman said. “Community Day is about fairness and fully embracing all our neighbors - community wide.”

Community Day served as a reminder that collaboration across faith-based organizations, nonprofits and local agencies can lead to impactful, empowering opportunities. The event was made possible by partners and supporters including Wellpoint, USCJ, DCA, NJPAC, Trust for Public Land, Family Connections, NJ4S Essex, Newark Police Department 2nd Precinct and United by Blue.
