Masquerade Magic: UCC YouthBuild Program Participants Celebrate Prom Night in Style

Young people enrolled in UCC’s YouthBuild program showcased their elegance and flair at a Masquerade Ball-themed prom held in May at Costa del Sol in Union for an unforgettable celebration.

The prom, which was held in partnership with Leaders for Life, the educational provider for UCC YouthBuild, provided the young people a well-deserved evening to revel in their growth and accomplishments while dressed to impress in stunning gowns, sleek tuxedos, and stylish masks that added a touch of magic to the evening.

Moments before the festivities began, UCC Executive Director Crag Mainor shared words of guidance and good cheer for the young people.

“I want to say congratulations and that I’m proud of you all. I hear the stories about all of the things you’re getting yourselves into and out of, and I’m proud of the work you’ve been doing,” Mainor said.

While there was plenty of fun, lively music and dancing, good food, and memories worth a lifetime to be had among the program participants and staff, the evening also served as a milestone for students who have shown resilience, determination, and dedication throughout their time in the YouthBuild program.

The program provides opportunity youth the chance to earn their high school diploma while engaging in pre-apprenticeship training programs in various career pathways. These career pathways include construction training, certified nursing assistant, dental technician and dental assistant, home health aid, and phlebotomy. The program also emphasizes personal and career growth for participants, allowing them to develop the skill sets and awareness to grow into community leaders.

The evening was capped off with the traditional crowning of prom royalty with the recognition of the prom king and queen, giving attendees one final moment to enjoy the special occasion and moment of togetherness as graduation day approaches.

UCC honors the success of its YouthBuild participants and recognizes that beyond academics and training, creating safe, celebratory spaces like prom plays an important role in building connection, confidence, and community.
