United Community Corporation offers two programs: Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) and Payment Assistance for Gas and Electric (PAGE) to serve the City of Newark and Essex County.

While LIHEAP and PAGE both exist to help in-need individuals and families with energy
assistance, they both serve different demographics. LIHEAP serves Essex County only, while
PAGE is a statewide program. LIHEAP provides payments throughout its service year, while PAGE offers payments once a year.

Clients that qualify for LIHEAP can also apply for the Universal Service Fund. Review the chart to see the qualifications for all three programs. During the application process, clients are required to present:

  • A state-issued ID, social security
    card
  • Proof of income or lack of income
  • Proof of address
  • Current electricity bill and a mortgage bill if available.

Clients can inquire about the energy assistance programs or apply by calling 973-642-0191 or emailing LIHEAP@uccnewark.org or liheapdocs@uccnewark.org.
